RE: Mifflin County Livestock Sale
The Mifflin County Fair Board Committee would like to thank you for your recent support of our 4-H and FFA Livestock programs and invite you once again to join us at the 71ST Mifflin County Youth Fair Livestock Sale.
Mifflin County Youth Fair Annual Jr. Livestock Auction 9:00 AM
Saturday, August 9, 2025
Show Ring - Youth Park in Reedsville, PA
The 2025 LIVESTOCK SALE order is as follows:
GOATS – RABBITS – DAIRY FEEDERS – MILK – STEERS – LAMBS – HOGS – POULTRY
Our Livestock will continue to sell by head. What does this mean for you, the buyer: This will allow buyers to know their total bill for each animal as the sale progresses. The market price will still be included in the sale catalog for animals going to the buyback program.
Swine Regulations
Considering the ongoing rapid spread of African Swine Flu in Asia, Europe and Africa, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Bureau of Animal Health has instituted special requirements for all swine shown and sold at all county fairs (see attached fact sheet on African Swine Flu). Due to these special requirements being put into effect on June 1, 2019, ALL market swine sold at the Mifflin County Youth Fair Livestock Auction MUST be hauled by a Fair Certified Hauler directly to an approved slaughter facility. NO EXCEPTIONS.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
We currently are unable to allow any swine to leave the premises via Self-Haul as in years past. We, as the Mifflin County Youth Fair Board, must complete extensive documentation to ensure chain of custody of all hogs from the time they enter the livestock barn until slaughter. All swine must be sent directly to the following USDA approved slaughter facilities, no swine may leave the sale in any other manner.
Approved SWINE Slaughter facilities for 2025 will be announced via mailer at a later date. All slaughter facilities will need prior approval prior to sending swine to their facilities due to the increased number of swine being sent.
Again, there will be no self haul option for SWINE at the 2025 Mifflin County Youth Fair.
We apologize for any confusion and inconvenience this may be for you as the buyer; however, in the interest of swine health during this time of elevated international risk, we ask for your continued support and understanding as we move through this year. We assure you that there will be precautions, as always, all animals at fair will pass a mandatory vet check as well as free and clear of any and all disease, these precautions are implemented to ensure that the U.S. continues to remain free from this outbreak.
The Mifflin County Fair Committee will haul livestock to the following processors at no additional charge or you may choose to self-haul all animals EXCEPT FOR SWINE as explained above. Please make prior arrangements prior to purchasing an animal for slaughter.
ALL APPROVED SLAUGHTER FACILITIES WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT A LATER DATE VIA MAILER
All slaughter facilities will need prior approval prior to sending animals to their facilities.
If you are purchasing livestock that will NOT be going to the buyback program, it is YOUR responsibility to ensure the animals have FEED & WATER at the conclusion of the livestock sale until they leave the premises.
All livestock must be off the fairgrounds by 5 pm on Saturday, August 9th.
Please make your transportation arrangements accordingly.

How can I support the 2025 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale?
Three Buying Options
Buy & Keep
You purchase the animal, pay the full price and you take it home with you. Except Hogs, they must be hauled by an approved hauler and go to an approved butcher
Buy Back
You purchase the animal for $800, the floor price or “buy back” price on that animal is $500. You only pay the difference of $300. With this option you do not own the animal.
Donate to the Central PA Food Bank
You purchase the animal and pay full price. You choose to select “Donate” to the Central PA Food Bank. They will handle all the transportation/processing of these animals. All animals put into the Food Bank program will come back to Mifflin County Food Pantry’s
